DIY Gold Etagere

When I was redecorating my apartment I had a very hard deadline to finish things up since my place was being photographed for Better Homes & Gardens. One of the final pieces I was on the hunt for was a pair of chic gilded iron etageres. Rather than a brass finish, I preferred the look of gilded iron because I love the contrast, texture and patina of a lightly applied, shimmering gold finish with hints of black, aged iron peeking through. At Home With Amber Lewis

Meet Amber Lewis – LA based interior designer, wife, mother and blogger. After discovering Amber’s blog earlier this year, it quickly became one of my favorites. I loved reading about all of the uber creative DIY projects she’s tackled in her home and I instantly connected with her eclectic sense of style and her witty sense of humor. She seemed like a ton of fun so during a recent visit to LA I sent her an email telling her how much I loved her blog and the next morning I found myself at her super cute house in the Valley …

My Craigslist Dining Chairs: Before & After

It’s been a while since I’ve shared one of my home decorating projects so I thought I’d give you a before and after look at my dining room chair makeover.  I’ve been holding on to these photos for ages! They were nicked, dinged, and the upholstery…let’s not even talk about it. Beyond awful. These definitely needed some TLC.

I knew I wanted to paint …

Reader DIY: Genevieve’s Skirted Sink

I’m always delighted to hear that my blog is a constant source of inspiration for others. Recently, New York based fashion stylist Genevieve Yraola emailed over photos of a fabulous DIY skirted sink she completed in her bathroom after seeing my post on skirted tables. Take a look:

After reading your blog on skirted tables, it inspired me to give my bathroom a quick DIY makeover. I wanted to hide the ugly plumbing under my pedestal sink as well as give extra storage. I made my skirt using fabric and velcro purchased from Mood Fabrics and grosgrain ribbon …

DIY Draperies

A couple of weeks ago I embarked on a little DIY drapery project. The windows in my apartment only had solar shades covering them for the longest time and I’d been wanting to soften them up with some fabulous draperies. If I could have things my way I would have had custom draperies made using Suzanne Rheinstein for Lee Jofa’s Ikat De Lin, but given how many yards I would have needed that would have far exceeded my budget so I decided to make my own!

My friend Robert gave me this sewing machine as a gift a while …
