Recently I headed down to Palm Springs to celebrate my birthday and this time around I tried a newish hotel that I’d been hearing lots of buzz about called Sparrow’s Lodge. Whenever I go to Palm Springs I go to simply getaway, sit by a pool and relax. While other hotels in town can sometimes be a bit of a scene, this quiet little retreat in the desert is the perfect low-key alternative. First, it only allows guests who are 21+, so no children and no worries of underage party kids. Secondly, the experience the hotel offers is something I feel is truly unique to Palm Springs. In terms of style and design, the aesthetic is rustic and refined, with a vibe that’s more like an ultra chic lakehouse that screams Classic Americana. It’s the total opposite of what you’d expect to find in a place that’s known for mid-century modern architecture and design. At the heart of the property is a communal barn where a buffet breakfast is served daily along with food and drinks throughout the day and evening. The walls are clad in reclaimed redwood with exposed beams and there’s pebbled stonework throughout. The atmosphere is so laid back and chill. When you first walk into the hotel there’s no traditional lobby or reception area, just a chic reading library with fireplace and a sign that says “find us in the barn.” The staff is super friendly and the ambiance makes the place feel like a hidden secret that’s so good you don’t ever want to share it! The property has a large pool and garden and all of the hotel’s 20 rooms surround these two common areas. Our room was spacious with a private back patio and no television – something I never even noticed until my sister pointed it out. I love hotels with no TVs. You know you’re in a place that’s meant for relaxation. During the day, sit by the pool with a good book and enjoy ice cream sandwiches while water sprays from misters above to keep you cooled off. At night, there are fire pits on the property and if you pop into the barn, the staff will give you everything you need to roast your own s’mores on the fire. Pure perfection! See more pictures from my trip below. I’d highly recommend a stay Sparrows Lodge if you’re heading to Palm Springs!
