If you’re in New York next week you must check out Housing Works‘ 4th Annual Design on a Dime Benefit. For this yearly fundraiser, Housing Works enlists some of the top names in interior design to create spectacular room vignettes with donated, brand new luxury home furnishings which are then sold at 50-80% off retail to benefit Housing Works’ charitable programs for homeless and low-income people living with HIV and AIDS in New York City. A group of 30 A-List design stars are on the roster for this year’s event and names include Charlotte Moss, Jamie Drake, Thom Filicia, Nathan Egan and Philip Gorrivan among others. Real Simple is this year’s presenting sponsor and the event is being co-chaired by actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. The 4th Annual Design on a Dime Benefit begins with a VIP preview and sale on May 8th followed by a free, open to the public preview and sale on May 9th and 10th. To purchase tickets to the opening night VIP preview or for more information about the event visit Housing Works Thrift Shops website. And click here to read my previous post about Housing Works.

To give you a feel for the types of vignettes you’ll see at this year’s event, here’s a look at a beautiful, feminine space designed by Delphine Krakoff for the first annual Design on a Dime event held in 2005. Enjoy!

I love that you live in New York and post these great happenings. I work in the design industry but always miss out on things like this. I will definatly check it out.

p.s. I just went to the MW sale and purchased the same rug you got but in a coral/orange – it’s beautiful and I’m obsessed!

  2. Wow those are some heavy weight designers! I totally love the photo of the space Delphine designed. WOW! Girl power. LOVe it.

  3. Design 59-I sadly was swamped on Fri and over the weekend and never made it. Did you check it out? If so how was it? Great choice re: the rug! I am obsessed with it too and love that coral color.

Karen- that Delphine K room sort of reminds me of your living room which looks amazing by the way!

  4. Your lifestyle or taste determines what the focal point of your living area is. If you have a fireplace, you can rearrange your furniture around it. Or if you have a piano, and this is the focal point of your living area, your furniture could be set around it. When rearranging your furniture, also consider traffic in your Living Room Decoration area. It is always good to arrange furniture in off-square angles. This makes the room warmer and more casual. http://living-room-decoration.blogspot.com
