Six years ago best friends Soraya Silchensted and Candice Pool became business partners when they teamed up to launch Finn – their line of delicate fine jewelry helmed by Soraya as the creative lead with Candice running the business operations. Above is photo of Soraya (right) and Candice  (left) snapped at a charity gala by none other than Bill Cunningham for his column in the New York Times Sunday Styles section. Aside from the fact that Soraya and Candice look ridiculously chic, I think this photo perfectly captures everything that Finn epitomizes – beauty, youth, sophistication and subtle glamour.

Over the years Finn has grown to attract an A-list roster of fans like Brad Pitt, Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Pattinson, Gretchen Mol and Gisele Bundchen and the line is now stocked at Barney’s. New York based clients can also shop Finn by appointment at the company’s beautifully decorated NoHo showroom. For the past three years the ladies of Finn have occupied this stylish space which, like their jewelry, is chic, feminine and timeless. Recently I paid the Finn showroom a visit and caught up with Candice who shared the details on the renovation and decoration of the space…

“Our building used to be an old button factory and when we took over the space it was just a raw space with a freight elevator and no electricity! There was nothing cute about it but the space was big and we loved it. You could tell it was a place where men worked and everything needed to be feminized.”

“We completely gutted the existing space and we built everything very simply. We put in all the lighting, re-built the walls and added a kitchen. The only thing we kept were the floors. There were holes in the floors which we patched up and a great story is that when the workers were fixing the floors they found a pair of old children’s boots and a newspaper from the 1890s stuffed in the floor. We gave them to the building owner as a keepsake!”

“We started decorating it ourselves. Most of our pieces came from Antique shops in Stamford Connecticut and Houston. The dining chairs were found in South Africa and we had them shipped over. The sofa is from Jonathan Adler, the wallpaper is Osbourne and Little and the dining table is actually from Crate & Barrel!”

We also brought in some of our books from home that we liked to help decorate the space. We use the art and jewelry books for reference and the rest are for guests to flip through when they visit.

My favorite piece in the showroom is the gilded shield mirror which I found in Houston and Soraya’s favorite piece is the marble Christopher Brumder sculpture next to the sofa.

We did mostly everything on our own but we had all of these great elements and didn’t know how to pull it together so we brought in an interior designer named Daun Curry to help. She came in and got some of the pieces re-covered, got us rugs, painted some of the furniture and really helped tie everything together.

We wanted the space to feel like a welcoming apartment. We didn’t want it to be a place where you just look at jewelry and leave. We wanted people to come in, have champagne, try on jewelry, talk, get comfortable and not want to leave – and that’s usually what happens now when people come by…they never want to go!

We really love it here. We’re in the back of the building so its quiet and we’re one of six lofts in this old building and that’s it. We feel lucky to have such a great space.
