Last year when I was redecorating my living room I had custom pillows made for my sofa. I was going to source top-grade knife-edge pillow inserts from a wholesaler which can be quite expensive but thanks to a tip from my mom I discovered a simpler, more cost-effective alternative. I went to Home Goods and found some very inexpensive down throw pillows in the sizes I needed for something like $9.99 and simply removed the covers so that I could use the down inserts. Such a great idea, right? I had my upholstery workroom fabricate two 20″ pillow covers in a soft aqua colored solid linen from Kravet and two 16″ covers in a patterned linen from Robert Allen called Eleria which I LOVE. I used the Kravet fabric for contrast welting. If you’re going to use this tip and source your pillow forms from a place like Home Goods or TJ Maxx, just make sure you feel the pillows to ensure that they’re actually down and not foam or poly. The synthetic pillow forms never look as nice and can’t be fluffed like a true down pillow. If you’re not on a tight budget, Scandia Down is a great place to go for top quality goose down pillow inserts and Lodi Down & Feather is an amazing wholesale resource for down products, available to the trade only.

Robert Allen’s Eleria. L: Green Tea. R: Biscotti

Eleria comes in two colorways, Green Tea and Biscotti…I chose Green Tea. I wanted to infuse subtle touches of pink throughout my living room and this colorway with its pops of pink was perfect! The Eleria pattern depicts a scene of birds among flowering trees and is reminiscent of 18th and 19th Century Chinoiserie prints. Above is a view of the full repeat and below is an up-close look:

I feel like I’ve posted this photo on my blog a gazillion times but here you can see the finished pillows on my sofa.
