Nemo Tile in Jamaica, Queens, 1921

Nemo Tile was another stop during my rounds at ICFF. I hardly ever pay attention to things like tile since I don’t own a home but I have to say, I loved what I saw. This New York based company has been around forever and offers a huge assortment that includes everything from basic subway tiles to more unique options like tiles made from rare exotic marbles or unusual elements such as coconut shells. At ICFF, Nemo Tile was showing off their latest private label offerings and the theme was all about texture. Below are two of their products that I love.

Nemococonut

This is Nemo’s Ekobe tile which is made from recycled coconut shells. These shells used to make these eco-friendly tiles were cut to uniform sizes and glued to a sustainable backing using natural materials. The tiles come in a variety of colors and can also be custom stained to achieve a personalized look. They can’t withstand direct moisture so they work best as a decorative element.

The Convesso tiles that you see above were probably my favorite of all of Nemo’s offerings on display at ICFF. These glazed porcelain tiles feature a slightly curved, convex shape that’s reminiscent of a classic subway tile but with a completely modern twist. They come in three colors–white, cream and black. When I finally buy a house, these will be going in my kitchen!
