Today I picked up the March issue of InStyle and was very surprised when I flipped to the Life & Home section and saw celebutante Nicky Hilton’s LA abode. I don’t think her personal style is all that remarkable so I would have never imagined that I’d actually like her decorating style.

I would describe the decor of her 1950s four bedroom home as rock chick meets Hollywood glamour. The house features dark wood floors with a black & white color palette in most of the rooms. Her  grandmother, an interior designer, helped her conceptualize the overall design scheme and Hilton picked most of the furniture pieces out herself from hip stores around LA in addition to a few pieces from antique shops…including this uber chic Chanel tray table.

Hilton purchased the vintage Chanel serving tray from an antique store in the Hamptons and then added legs to turn it into a side table. LOVE!

I also LOVE the tufted black patent leather upholstered headboard and bench in her bedroom…kind of sexy! I would have rather seen a cool glass chandelier in the middle of the room as opposed to the two pendant lamps on either side but hey…it works! I’m actually looking to have a custom headboard made for my own bedroom and her upholstery choice definitely inspired me to think out of the box and perhaps consider some more interesting textiles rather than the boring old natural linen I was thinking of. Hmmm…

The March InStyle also features Gucci creative director Frida Giannini’s villa just outside Florence, Italy. Take a look at her record collection…she owns more than 8,000 albums. How cool is that? I think I like her even more now!
