Congratulations is in order for Domino who just garnered its very first National Magazine Awards Nomination! Two in fact! The National Magazine Awards, presented annually by the American Society of Magazine Editors, recognizes excellence in various categories in magazine journalism and publishing. Consider it like the Academy Awards of the magazine publishing world. Domino nabbed a nomination in the Leisure Interest category as well as in the Single Issue category for its March 2007 Green Issue. The awards ceremony takes place May 1st here in New York. Good Luck Domino!

Domino also deserves a pat on the back for its incredible April issue! My subscription copy still hasn’t arrived but like a fiend I couldn’t wait for it so I grabbed a copy from the newsstand yesterday. Unlike its March issue, which was hotly debated on Decorno, Domino’s April issue did not disappoint. I devoured the magazine cover-to-cover, reading every single article in one sitting. The issue is full of amazing photography of incredibly beautiful, inspiring rooms and it also provides lots of great decorating tips and resources. Most of us have seen a sneak peek of cover girl Drew Barrymore’s Ruthie Sommers-designed office via the photos that Domino circulated to all the blogs. There are even more amazing photos in the book that are definitely drool worthy! I’m also really glad Domino decided to anniversary it’s “Domino 10” list which highlights 10 up-and-coming designers who are poised to become the next big thing in the interior design world. This was probably my favorite feature in the issue. I had only heard of two designers on the list so this article introduced me to lots of great new talent to admire. I loved reading all of their back stories and hearing them describe their design styles. At the end of their profiles each designer offered one great decorating tip and I really loved reading these as well. After reading the article I spent lots of time online perusing the designer’s portfolios and they all do such amazing work. I decided to narrow the Domino 10 list down to my four personal favorites which I included below. (I tried to pick just 3 but it was too hard!) For those of you who haven’t received your copies yet I hope you enjoy this sneak peek! Be sure to click on the photos if you want to see the copy more clearly.

  3. Hi Dianna–yes Domino is definitely deserving of such recognition. It’s such a great magazine and I also think it’s photography and art direction are also unique and noteworthy. Hopefully they’ll receive a nomination in those categories in the future!

  4. I agree that this issue is particularly good. I look forward to seeing even better issues from Domino after the hot debate last month!

  5. Karen–I’m looking forward to future issues as well! Especially since Deborah Needleman herself got involved in the Decorno debate…It will be interesting to see how/if the mag will change. The fact that they were even having meetings internally about this is crazy! Who knew us little ‘ol design bloggers could ever have so much influence?! Hopefully all of the Decorno reader comments were taken to heart.
